Oxana is of Ukrainian origins and most of her extended family lives in Ukraine, in Kiev and Donetsk. She herself was born and brought up in Kazakhstan. Here is what she says:
I was thinking about my many connections, but it is not easy to put it in words. I am a pianist of Ukrainian origins, born and brought up in Kazakhstan.
When I lived in Kazakhstan, country where in every town there is a street called after Taras Shevchenko, where there was even a city called Shevchenko, I always felt importance of my culture.
