Afineevsky’s film documents the Ukrainian uprising in Kiev’s Maidan in 2013-14, showing how a peaceful student protest – against president Viktor Yanukovych’s decision to forge closer ties with Putin’s Russia rather than pursue European integration — turned into violent revolution. As the drama unfolds, Afineevsky uses footage shot by activists, aerial shots, maps to place the action, and the testimonies of those involved. This documentary shows how a peaceful protest turned into a violent revolution in Ukraine.
