Gogol Bordello have spent the last decade getting down with that energy through their meteoric live shows and have earned a solid reputation as ‘the hottest global touring act to come out of New York’ (Billboard) and ‘the world’s most riotous live band’ (Rolling Stone). Their wildly energetic live shows are celebrated by fans worldwide and have brought them to every corner of the globe.
Described as ‘Joe Strummer with a gypsy twist’, Gogol Bordello’s Ukrainian-born frontman Eugene Hutz leads his misfit collection of New York-based refugees out on stage in London. Though they’ve been around for years, their brand of Balkan punk rock – complete with fiddles, saxophones, accordions and whatever they can lay their hands on for percussion – is still unmissable. – Time Out
This year Gogol Bordello will bring its Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike Tour to the UK with a two night run at KOKO.
Fusing elements of punk, Gypsy music, and more, Gogol Bordello first released Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike in the summer of 2005. Produced by Steve Albini, the album tells the true American immigrant story of ringleader/visionary Eugene Hutz who, combined with the rest of the Gogol collective, attained a new level of musical and lyrical intensity on this album that translated into nearly every language on earth. Fans and critics alike raved about Gypsy Punks; The New York Times declared their sound as “raucous, sweaty, tuneful and recklessly vibrant” while FADER called the album “pure fire” and CMJ boldly declared it “the most exciting rock music coming out of New York.”
