In this special and urgent event in solidarity with incarcerated Ukrainian film-maker Oleg Sentsov and the other Ukrainian political prisoners serving extreme sentences in Russian jails, we will hear from the frontline of Ukrainian resistance to the annexation of Crimea.

Part of Belarus Free Theatre’s campaign I’m with the Banned, bringing together artists and activists from the UK, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, the event is supported by Nobel Literature Laureate Svetlana Alexievich and British film-maker Lord Puttnam on behalf of European Film Academy’s who has recorded a special message for the event, which is hosted by our trustee Rt Hon Maria Miller, MP.

The speakers at the event are Andrei Khliyvynuk activist and frontman of Ukrainian super group Boombox which played with David Gilmour at Belarus Free Theatre’s launch of I’m with the Banned last year; film and theatre director turned soldier – Eugene Stepanenko; and Natalia Kaplan, cousin of Oleg Sentsov a popular film-maker and civil rights activist, incarcerated in Siberia, as he faces another 18 years in jail. The discussion will be facilitated by author and TV producer Peter Pomerantsev.

Maria Alyokhina of Pussy Riot and members of Belarus Free Theatre will read extracts from Oleg Sentsov’s letters and from Burning Doors , Belarus Free Theatre’s new play described as “gruelling battle between oppressor and oppressed and a celebration of resistance.” Financial Times.
